Blue Runner Foods, Inc., canner of Blue
Runner Creole Cream Style beans, was founded in 1918 by Mr. Pierre
Chauvin. Beginning behind his home, at 21 years of age he started
Union Canning Factory canning figs and blackberries. In 1946 he
teamed with Mr. C. A. Englade forming Gonzales Products Co., Inc.,
and a new facility was built at the present location in Gonzales,
Louisiana. In 1950 using a recipe from his grandmother, Mr. Chauvin
began canning Creole cream style white navy beans and later added
our now famous Creole cream style red beans. In 1993, Mr. Richard
Thomas purchased Gonzales Products Co., Inc., changed the name to
Blue Runner Foods, Inc. and remains the President/CEO.
Blue Runner Foods, Inc. currently cans many different items including:
Cream Style Red Kidney Beans, New Orleans Red Beans, Creole Cream
Style Navy Beans, New Orleans Navy Beans, Pinto Beans with Jalapenos,
and Black Beans. Our Creole Classics Soup line includes: Okra &
Shrimp Gumbo, Red Bean & Roux, White Bean with Southern Greens
and Tomato Basil Bisque. These items are available in almost every
grocery store in Louisiana.
The institutional size red beans lend themselves very well to the
restaurant trade, as they take the work out of the many hours of
preparation of cream style beans, and can be used as they are, or
made into an original by a creative chef adding his personal touch.
They also can be made into soups and gumbo. They are widely used
in many restaurants throughout the U.S.A.
With the recent demand for Creole and Cajun style foods, Blue Runner
continues to test and develop other famous Creole dishes, which
would lend themselves to canning so that other people may have access
to our famous and delectable cuisine.
